Paper 2 · Section B
Question 1 of 5
Mr Rajan asks his property agent about what happens if they later decide they no longer wish to live in the Community Care Apartment. The agent explains: 'Community Care Apartments cannot be sold on the open market. If you no longer wish to live in it, you must return the flat to HDB, which will pay you (i)___ based on (ii)___. You are also (iii)___ from renting out the whole flat or any bedroom.'
How to approach an RES exam case study
In each RES paper, Section B has 20 questions based on one or two case studies. Each is worth two marks, making this section 40% of your paper. Practise reading the scenario carefully before choosing an answer.
- 1
Identify the decision
Ask what advice, eligibility test or transaction outcome the question actually requires.
- 2
Build a fact checklist
Mark dates, ages, citizenship, property ownership, relationships, values and stated intentions before applying a rule.
- 3
Test every option
Do not stop at the first plausible statement. Classify each option against the same facts and current rule.
- 4
Learn from the explanation
After answering, identify the decisive fact and check the linked official source. Explain why that fact changes the outcome.
Strengthen the rules behind your answers
If a rule in the case feels unfamiliar, practise it in a shorter standalone question before returning to scenario-based application.
